Before a purchase, review the property's drain records and earlier backups. A focused drain check differs from a general home inspection. Obtain permission for entry and testing, then discuss the questions you want the independent provider to address.

Define the drain-check questions
The review may consider accessible drains, fixture behavior, cleanouts, earlier clearing reports, and whether a camera view is practical. Confirm which sections the visit includes.

Read the findings with their limits
A report cannot describe concealed sections that were not reached or viewed. Bends, buildup, water, and inaccessible openings can limit findings. Ask the provider to distinguish observations from assumptions and explain unresolved questions.
